Unmanned Aerial Vehicle powered by LiPo batteries has very limited endurance. The normal battery drone can fly only 10 to 30 minutes. However, surveying, mapping, power line inspection, police, search rescue and many other industrial level applications require much longer endurance. Endurance is one of the key requirements of industrial drones.
H2 Hybrid System removes numerous challenges for UAV business uses. A normal configuration provided by customer demonstrates 2.5+ hours with 1 gallon of gasoline (3.7 liter). More features of H2 Hybrid System are illustrated as below:
1. Power on Demand, for short POD. H2 Hybrid System outputs power as the demand of loads. The power generated by H2 is exactly how much the drone needs.
2. Generator and battery dual power. Battery is the back-up power for Hybrid system. In the case of engine failure, the battery seamless handovers automatically and provides power for landing. Dual power design avoids a huge loss and more reliable than parachute.
3. High efficiency AC-DC algorithm. The efficiency of generator achieves 95%.
4. Limp Mode. The maximum rated power of generator is 2 kilowatts. Integrated with limp mode, the output power is 5 kilowatts or more. The drone can achieve sudden side wind and maneuver with the help of limp mode.
Compared with batteries, Hybrid system has advantages both in endurance and payload domains.
H2 weights 4 kilograms 8.8 lb, continuous power 1.8 kilowatts 2.4 hp. H2 has 11 times energy density compared to a 2 kilowatts traditional generator, 7 times compared to a digital generator.
